Three Analogue Oscillators
Building on the monophonic, two-oscillator design of the original, the Pro series has three discrete, continuous-waveshaping analogue VCOs with each VCO capable of PWM. Although it’s still a single-voice synth, the oscillators can operate in 3-note Paraphonic mode whereby the VCF/VCA and modulation resources are shared, and VCOs are allocated to separate notes.
Oscillators can be hard-synced for more harmonically-complex tones, and oscillator FM lets you create anything from bell-like sounds to screaming industrial tones. The VCO section also has ring modulation, and a white noise generator for a wide range of percussive sounds and epic rises. Recreate famous synth sound sources or forge entirely new ones – UNO Synth Pro has the tools you need!
Unique Dual Circuit State Variable Filter Stage
The UNO Synth Pro is equipped with 2 filters for its voice that can be routed either in series or parallel.
Filter 1 is a 2-pole OTA based filter with HP and LP modes. This is a version of the original UNO Synth filter with improved stability and control.
Filter 2 is a selectable 2 or 4-Pole LP based on the SSI2164 chip.
The CUTOFF and RESonance controls are shared for the 2 filters. They are located outside the matrix and are always available.
The characterful, two-pole OTA based multimode filter of the UNO Synth carries into the Pro series accompanied by an additional SSI based multimode filter capable of 2-pole or 4-pole operation. Unlike the original OTA filter, the new SSI filter circuit is capable of self-oscillation at high resonance. In concert with different serial/parallel routing options and phase inversions, a total of 24 filter response combinations are possible, extending the tonal pallet for the new UNO Synth generation.
Depending on the selected filter, the mode, slope and routing of the two filters are as follows:
FILTER 1:
- 2-Pole Low Pass 0°
- 2-Pole Low Pass 180°
- 2-Pole High Pass 0°
- 2-Pole High Pass 180°
- BYPASS
FILTER 2
- 2-Pole Low Pass SERIAL
- 4-Pole Low Pass SERIAL
- 2-Pole Low Pass PARALLEL
- 4-Pole Low Pass PARALLEL
- BYPASS SERIAL
- BYPASS PARALLEL
In short, the UNO Synth Pro’s versatile filter stage will not only recreate classic vintage synth tones but provides the tools to forge new-generation sounds for today’s genres.
Envelopes, Filters and Modulation Matrix
UNO Synth Pro Desktop offers two ADSR envelopes normalled to the filter and amplifier. Both available as sources to modulate everything from oscillator pitch and waveshape to LFO speed or even other envelope stages. Dual LFOs provide classic synth vibrato, wah and tremolo, and do more complex modulations including audio-rate FM.
The 16-slot free-form Modulation Matrix puts the icing on the cake. You can quickly and easily design even the most sophisticated modulation scheme, with both internal and external sources, including MIDI controllers. The CV/Gate connections are even available within the available Sources/Destinations allowing easy integration of your favourite Eurorack modulation sources into your sounds. With such flexible modulation facilities on offer, this greatly extends the creative potential for realising intricate patches with plenty of opportunities for establishing organic movement.
Analogue Overdrive Stage and Stunning Onboard DSP FX Processors
Before the DSP Effect engines, the signal path features a true analogue drive circuit giving the ability to exaggerate harmonic overtones and bring out further sweets spots of the VCF stage.
Sculpt and finalise your patches with three simultaneous DSP FX blocks: Modulation, Delay and Reverb. Twelve studio-grade effects are on offer to experiment with and enhance your sounds. IK Multimedia has a long-established legacy as developers of DSP based effects in their plug-in range and the quality of these algorithms reflect this. The Ensemble effect is modelled on classic string machines (first appearing in IK’s Syntronik virtual instrument). Thus, in tandem with the 3-oscillator Paraphonic playback, convincing string machine patches can be easily realised. External signals can also be routed through these effects, with pre-effects filtering for maximum flexibility.
Analogue purists will be pleased to know that the DSP FX engine runs from sends. Thus, it is possible to preserve a completely analogue signal path from end-to-end.
Improved Playability and Enhanced User Interface Elements
UNO Synth Pro Desktop has a premium-quality 37-key synth-action Italian-Made Fatar keybed capable of generating Channel Aftertouch data and pair of dedicated Pitch and Mod wheels for enhanced expression.
You’ll find firm-touch rubber pads for the control sections, plus LED-backlit indicators and graphic LED display for navigating its user interface, making it easier than ever to use UNO Synth Pro live on stage or in deep programming sessions in the studio.
Presets, Sequencer and Arpeggiator
UNO Synth Pro Desktop offers 256 user-editable Preset memories which capture the full state of the sound engine.
An onboard 64-step sequencer offers both step and real-time recording, with automation for up to 40 parameters, letting you create incredibly intricate and evolving soundscapes. The Sequencer can even access the CV/Gate outputs allowing Uno Synth Pro to drive modular synth hardware.
Rather than working with a shared pool, Step Sequences are stored independently within each patch memory, and thus the unit can store an impressive 256 Sequences. Furthermore, a Song Mode allows linking Step Sequences via Preset memories, facilitating chained Sequences.
And a 10-mode arpeggiator makes it easy to create intricate patterns and runs plus a new Chord Mode that takes advantage of UNO Synth Pro Desktop’s paraphonic voicing.
Advanced Connectivity
The UNO Synth Pro Desktop offers a pair of full-size 6.5mm balanced TRS sockets for low-noise stereo audio output. A Micro USB socket provides USB MIDI functionality with class compliance for simple connection to computers and mobile devices with an additional auxiliary USB Micro socket for the supply of power. Traditional full-sized 5-pin DIN MIDI In and MIDI Out sockets make it easy to integrate with traditional hardware synths and MIDI interfaces. A Soft-Thru function may be engaged for the MIDI Output for daisy-chaining additional MIDI devices.
If you’re looking for a compact device to play your Eurorack modular rig, the UNO Synth Pro Desktop will serve as a capable CV/Gate equipped controller thanks to the inclusion of a pair of 3.5mm CV/Gate Outputs. The pair of 3.5mm CV/Gate Inputs allow the synth engine from sequencer modules within your modular. Better still, you can make use of your favourite CV modulation sources to feed into its Modulation Matrix. Since the Modulation Matrix assignments are stored on a per-patch basis, the role you allocate to the CV/Gate outputs and inputs is not a global setting – instead, it is localised for each patch.
The Audio input allows access to the filter and FX section for external signals, or simple pass-through mode for daisy-chaining multiple units together without using a mixer.
